This is a story from Helen Higgins, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis…

At the end of our 2017 Celebrate Kids Breakfast, 4-year old Ryan and his grandma approached me. Ryan had a plastic pig in his little hands that was adorned with stickers of hearts and cartoon characters. I knelt down so we could talk eye to eye. When I asked him what he had, he said he had been saving for a long time, and that he wanted to give the Club his savings so that kids would have a fun place to go. His piggy bank was full of coins and dollar bills, and as he handed it over, a slow and sweet smile spread across his face. I gave Ryan a big hug and thanked him for being so kind and thoughtful. He blushed and leaned into his grandma. When his grandma and I looked at each other, the tears started to flow. It was one of the sweetest experiences of giving with an open heart that I have experienced in my life.  I’ve kept that pig on my shelf for the last 4 years as a reminder of the power and gift of giving. It lifts us all in exactly the way we each need it.  Our Celebrate Kids Breakfast event is our collective opportunity to do what we can to lift up our local youth and teens. Thank you for partnering with us in this critical work.
