This September the Boys & Girls Club hosted its Inaugural SMART Ladies Golf tournament at the Corvallis Country Club. The 9-hole scramble discouraged golfers from keeping score and encouraged a more light hearted atmosphere with fun themed holes, goodie bags and raffle prizes that ensured even the most inexperienced golfers had a good time.
We enjoyed a continental breakfast before the tournament and a delicious lunch after. Themed holes like the 4 Spirits Signature Drink hole and the Jackson Street Youth Shelter Donut hole made everyone a winner with complimentary drinks and donuts, a chance to win prizes by driving a marshmallow and other themed games and prizes.
The best part?—All proceeds from the event went to the SMART Girls program at the Club, which teaches girls how to be successful leaders by equipping them with knowledge and skills for navigating the challenging world of adolescence. Girls ages 11 to 18 meet for 2 to 3 hours a week to listen to guest speakers, participate in interactive activities and have discussions about real challenges they’re experiencing in their lives.
Girls in the program learn how to maintain healthy relationships and provide positive support and healthy advice to their peers. They get to help decide what topics are covered in the program by voting on themes like, how media influences self esteem and world view, Yoga and meditation as alternative stress relievers to drugs or alcohol, gender equality and the history of feminism, self defense, nutrition and several other important topics.
Thanks to the SMART Ladies Golf Tournament the Club will be able to enrich the SMART Girls program by providing programmatic materials that will help to shape our future generations of female leaders right here in Benton County.
The tournament is expected to be held again in fall of 2017 and is open to men and women, so mark your calendars now and get ready to have fun while supporting the Club’s adolescent youth!
