Mites (coach pitch) baseball for 1st & 2nd Grade (7-8 year old) Coed
MITES baseball for boys & girls grades 1st-2nd grade (7-8 years old)
The Mite league is designed as an intermediate program to the game of baseball. The focus of this league is basic instruction of skills, rules, game situations and awareness. The program teaches sportsmanship, respect, responsibility and teamwork, while in a controlled, competitive, fun atmosphere. Coaches pitch to their own players in a way to introduce live pitching. A tee is used when needed to ensure success in putting the ball in play. Everyone bats, everyone plays and positions are switched every inning. No scores or standings are kept at this level, but outs are enforced.
Mite practices and games take place on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 6pm, starting the 3rd week in May.
Coaches are usually parents who enjoy sharing their knowledge of the game while encouraging confidence, learning and fun, through positive, simple and basic instruction. If you would like to help coach a team, you must submit a volunteer application. All coaches will receive training and help with designing practice plans. All equipment and practice/game space is provided. All coaches who are on the field instructing kids other than their own are required to pass a background check.
The BGCC supplies bats, balls and helmets. Players should have their own gloves and water bottles with a name. Personal helmets are encouraged, for sanitary reasons. Cleats are optional.
All kids registered “on time” will receive a team shirt and matching hat. Gray baseball pants are recommended, but not mandatory.
All practices and home games are held at The Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis (Linus Pauling), both Tee ball & Mite teams play in a league with Philomath and will travel to Philomath MS to play away games.
